In
1994, Pacificon completed the development of a PLC based control system
for Carmanah's Stranders used in the Oriented Strand Board (OSB)
industry. Over 65 Strander PLC control systems have been installed at OSB sites across North
and South America and Europe.
Strander
- PLC Control Systems
-
A
PLC based processor with hydraulic linear
position controller,
-
72-inch
cylinder and high speed counter for measuring RPM
are used to precisely control the velocity
of the carriage based on the RPM of the 8-foot diameter disc to
maintain a consistent strand thickness.
-
Consoles,
Panelviews, Panelmates and Wonderware operator interfaces have all been
used
-
As
an option, a Modicon PLC control
system has been designed and is installed on several machines.
-
We
have a Co-operative agreement in place to recognize Pacificon as the
exclusive supplier of this control system to Carmanah Design and
Manufacturing Inc.
-
The
original control systems for the stranders were based on Inovec’s “Black-Box”
controller. As these control systems are approaching the end of their
useful service lives; the Inovec control systems are being updated to our
PLC based systems.
-
In
2001, we re-designed the PLC program to automatically accommodate random
length logs, and at the same time, improved the cutting efficiency by
reducing the number of air cuts, common to a fixed log length processing
system.
