Log Length Measuring System
Recently a customer requested us to design a more accurate method of measuring the log length for the sawyer while the log was being dogged on headrig carriage. We developed a system using two lasers, each with a 100-foot range, to calculate the log length to with accuracy of less than an inch. The measured length was then displayed for the operator on a digital display.
The same system can also be used for logs being trimmed to length at Cutoff Saws or DeBarkers.
Features & Specifications:
- Measurement range of 1 to 200 feet.
- Measurements can be made while product moving
- Measurement accuracy as high as 0.25 inches over 100 feet.
- Self calibrating system.
- PLC based system.
Log Gap Control
We also used a similar version of the above laser log length system to provide log position feedback to control log gapping for an Automated Step Feeder feeding logs into a Debarker.
