Founded in 1986 by Jim Irwin, Pacificon Systems Ltd. began as a consulting firm specializing in industrial controls for the wood products sector. Over the decades, Pacificon has grown to deliver common-sense power and control systems to OEM’s and end-users across manufacturing, packaging, and bulk products handling industries.

Jim Irwin
Founder and President

In 1986, Jim began the challenge of establishing a consulting firm to provide industrial controls expertise, primarily in the wood products sector. Jim brings over 50 years of hands-on experience in industrial automation, with deep expertise in project management, PLC’s, VFD’s, and HMI’s.

Ron Baum
Senior Control Specialist

Ron has been with Pacificon for over 20 years as a designer and project manager. Pacificon has benefited greatly from his experience in the wood products industry. “Why make it complicated?” is often his approach to design issues. Ron is also our team’s go-to resource when troubleshooting mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical systems.

Since 1995, we have done control systems for over 130 Flakers and Stranders with Kadant Carmanah Design and Manufacturing for worldwide installations in OSB plants.
Since 1997, we have done control systems for over 200 Strapping Machines and Plastic Head Retrofits across Canada with Signode Canada.
Since 2014, we have done over 25 significant upgrade projects with Western Forest Products at several of their mills on Vancouver Island.
Delta Cedar Products (since 2010), HALO Sawmill (since 2014) and West Fraser LVL (since 2012) are also long-term clients, and we are their preferred systems integrator.
